THE MERCHANT OF VENICE || ICSE || CLASS 9 || EASIEST EXPLANATION
As the scene opens, the clown Launcelot is debating with himself whether to continue with Shylock or not. A ‘fiend’ urges him to leave his present employment. His conscience urges him to be loyal to his master and stick on. Finally, he left Shylock’s service. The scene creates more sense of humor when he met his old father, old Gobbo. He misguides his father purposely to make fun of him. Then Bassanio enters and old Gobbo informs him that Launcelot wants to work for him(Bassanio) and Bassanio agrees.
